The Tradional House of Antimachia. History. Around 1970, modern technology and new industrial production methods bought with them changes to the local community. At that point a communal effort was made to preserve the disappearing traditional way of life. In 1989, ajoint effort was made by the "Folklore and Local Culture comittee", the members of the village community and the local city council to set the plan in motion. The foundations of the Traditional Greek House of Antimaheia were laid. The house was finished and opened to visitors in 1991. The building is an exact replica of a typical, average, middle income family house of the 20th century. The materials and methods used and the internal and external appearance, were the same ones used in the village as late as the 1960's. When the modern way of life began to have an influence on the lives of the locals. It was built to be functional for the average farming family. It was within their economic boundaries and it suited their needs. They only needed the basics.All tools, objects, utensils and furnishings were practical for their daily lives. The Traditional Greek House is made up of: The baking room - Comprised of wooden stove and weaving machine -all linen and rugs were made this way, as well as a lot of their clothing. The house - Family gathering. room and bedroom - usually only one room for sleep. The good room - The good lounge for special occasions.
